Journal Entry #1 – Bits ‘n Bites

1. 2012-02-02 at 5:00 PM, Sitting at  a table outside Bits ‘n Bites.

2. Sound furthest away: An aircraft above our heads, rumbling across the sky to or from one of the Long Island airports.

3. Sound medium range away: Cars on Hempstead Turnpike driving past just North of us.

4. Sound closest to you: Low conversations of people walking around us, doors opening and closing in Memorial Hall.

5. General Sound Level: It’s a quiet evening at Hofstra, a lull in time before another wave of classes gets out.  A few people are walking, but nobody is too loud.  It’s unseasonably warm for February, but still, nobody wants to be outside for too long.  The doors swing open and shut regularly, dinner time at Memorial Hall.  The hum of traffic remains behind it all (thought not to busy, and horns are a rarity), while leaves and branches rustle above our heads.  Not much going on for the moment.

6. One word description of the moment: Subdued

7. Three sounds that “make up” the environment: the traffic on Hempstead Tpk, the rustling of the leaves above, and the conversations of those walking by us.
