Sound Journal, week 5

Location: Rehearsal, Adams Playhouse, March 3rd, sometime between 7pm and 11pm. Backstage, next to the loading doors.

Far Sounds: Lines and movement on stage.

Mid Sounds: Other actors backstage, whispering lines to themselves, walking, coughing silently.

Close Sounds: From the ally outside I can hear what I can only guess is the sound of someone spray-painting something – occasional voices, and a frequent sound of what sounds like a can of spray paint being shaken (a sort of plastic-to-metal rattling.) [Although in terms of physical distance, these sounds probably came from a source farther from me than the other actors backstage, they felt a lot closer – with my back to the doors, these sounds were right in my ears.]

General Level: Quiet. All very low-level sounds – even the voices on stage, though loud and clear in intent, were muted by their direction and by the set standing between me and them.

One Word Description: Serene.

Three Essential Sounds: The spray-paint shaking outside. The voices on stage. Another actor backstage coughing.
