1 – 4/21/14 – 4:00pm – Stop and Shop Deli, South Setauket
2 – Identify and list the sounds farthest away from you.
-A customer plopping her vegetables on a scale.
-The shopping carts squeaking.
-The misters spraying water vapor on vegetables like spinach and kale and carrots.
3 – Identify and list the sounds at a medium range from you.
-A deli employee shouting to another employee to get him to bring out more turkey.
-Another customer, this time talking on the phone.
-A stocker placing newly packaged cheese and specialty items on the showcase.
4 – Identify and list the sounds closest to you.
-The ticket machine printing a ticket.
-A deli employee asking, “what can I get for ya?”
-The slicing sounds the slicer makes as it cuts meat; another slicer is being used for slicing cheese.
5 – Describe the general sound level and amount of sound activity.
-The sound level was pretty quiet overall, while there were times it raised to a medium level. A bunch of the sounds like the ones that came from the misters, slicers, and the stocker were low in volume. The shouting, talking and squeaking were louder.
6 – Assign a one word description to the “sound environment”.
-Scrumptious.
7 – Select and list 3 sounds which are essential to the sound environment.
-The sounds of the ticket machine.
-The slicers slicing the meat and cheese.
-The misters making mist.
